Are you ready?

My parents live in the greater Houston area and were hit by Hurricane Ike almost 2 weeks ago. They didn't need to evacuate and had plenty of supplies and food to get them by. They froze extra water jugs to help keep their freezer cold until the power came back on. A great idea, as long as your power comes back on. They've now been without power for 13 days and are hopeful that it will be on soon. They invited friends and neighbors over and barbecued the rest of the meat in their freezer before it could go bad.  read more »

Call it coincidence, call it a miracle....

Call it what you want, but after being plagued with headaches since I found out I am pregnant, I have found a cure.

I get regular migraine headaches. Usually they are menstrual migraines, but if I don't get enough sleep for too many nights in a row, I will also get one. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I was really able to manage them. I take either an OTC remedy (Excedrin Migraine) or a prescription, depending on the severity, and often drinking a cold caffeinated drink helps get rid of them, too.  read more »

Ding Dong the Boot is Gone!

I went to the orthopedist today and got a rigid splint to wear instead of that horrible heavy boot! I can even put (well, I'm supposed to for support) a sneaker on over it. So while I'm not going to be running a marathon, let alone walking down the street, I have a little more range of movement in my ankle now and hopefully in the next couple of days I'll be able to drive again. I feel a little unsteady when I walk but I'm sure over the next few days, as my muscles get used to moving again, I'll be a little more mobile. In the meantime, I need to catch up to Tami and Heidi and Erika in the Stash Game. These ladies are leaving me in the dust!

Told you so!

The recovered cell phone seems to be fully functional. The whole thing is just amazing to me!

Two weeks!

My view

I'm sure you're all just dying for an update about my ankle, aren't you? Today marks two weeks since my fall.

I went to the orthopedic doctor on the 18th and he gave me an orthopedic boot instead of a cast. I get to wear it for a long time. How long, I am not currently sure, but I go back in two more weeks for an update.

If I were crazy, I'd have elective surgery and get a plate and some screws and be back on the football field in 4 weeks! But wait, I don't play football, and elective surgery isn't something I'd elect to have.

I can walk around very slowly without crutches. I get tired very easily but find I have a little more energy every day. I am getting tired of the same three pairs of pants. Last night I made dinner for the first time since the injury. As much as I appreciated all the food brought in, it just isn't the same as the stuff you're used to.
