Call it what you want, but after being plagued with headaches since I found out I am pregnant, I have found a cure.

I get regular migraine headaches. Usually they are menstrual migraines, but if I don't get enough sleep for too many nights in a row, I will also get one. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I was really able to manage them. I take either an OTC remedy (Excedrin Migraine) or a prescription, depending on the severity, and often drinking a cold caffeinated drink helps get rid of them, too.

The last four times I've been pregnant, I have had one, maybe two migraines in early pregnancy and then I am headache free until I deliver. This time, however, I was having headaches constantly. My doctor told me to take Tylenol with a caffeinated drink. It worked pretty well, but it's discouraging to hurt all the time, to have no energy all the time, and to medicate all the time just to be able to function.

A gal in my local parenting group was doing a group order of amber jewelry. I had heard that some people believe that amber has healing properties and can help relieve pain and swelling. Lots of moms put amber necklaces on their babies to help with teething pain. I wasn't sure I believed it, though. I looked through the website and saw that some people had relief from migraines from wearing an amber necklace. I figured that I could give it a try, and even if it didn't work, I would have a pretty necklace to wear.

The day I got my necklace, I was exhausted and fighting a headache. I hadn't taken any medicine or caffeine, but I put the necklace on and by the end of the day, I felt fine.

Then it was three WEEKS before I got another headache. And I'm not sure that anything would have prevented that one, which was mostly caused by sleeping on my neck wrong. So in the four weeks since I put on my necklace, I've had one headache. Pretty cool, if you ask me.

My amber jewelry came from Inspired by Finn and she has great customer service and really fast shipping. I ordered a teething necklace for the new baby, as well as a bracelet for myself and two child's bracelets that I've twisted together to wear around my used-to-be-broken ankle.

I certainly don't know if it's coincidence that my headaches stopped, or if it's really the healing power of baltic amber, but I'm not taking off the necklace to see which it is.
